Diwurruwurru-Jaru (Katherine Regional Language Centre)

12_imgDiwurruwurru-Jaru Language Centre was established in 1992 to service the needs of some 32 Aboriginal language groups spread across the region covering the middle third of the Northern Territory. The Aboriginal speakers are spread through 15 major communities, most of them on Aboriginal land, and the town centres of Katherine and Pine Creek.

The name of the organisation means Letterstick story. 'Diwurruwurru' is an Alawa word for letterstick while 'jaru' is a Ngumlom word for story. Frilled neck Lizard is sitting on a letterstick. The sun-go-down and the sunrise sides of the region are represented by the suns either side of the Northern Territory map on the logo.
